Sign up to take reformer sessions or mat classes at my new location within Rise Physical Therapy and Pilates, 1550 Parkside Dr. Suite 120, Walnut Creek.
Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on building core strength, flexibility, and balance. There are two main subsets of Pilates: mat and reformer. Mat Pilates is an instructor-led class in which movements are performed on a mat and requires minimal equipment. Reformer Pilates classes require a specific piece of equipment, the reformer, which channels the body’s weight into natural resistance in order to stretch and build both “major” and “minor” muscles. Both types of practice allow for routines so the participants can remain engaged, and the instructor can adjust to client needs and abilities during each class.
Both forms of Pilates are highly effective in reducing stress, improving physical fitness, and promoting overall well-being. I know firsthand that by participating in a steady Pilates practice one can learn to better understand and improve their body. The benefits that Pilates can provide are numerous: improved flexibility, greater balance, enhanced core strength, increased spinal rotation, focused breathing, and a more purposeful posture.
